A FEW WORDS ABOUT
LU DIAZ
Mix Engineer / Producer Lu Diaz
Lu Diaz is a name synonymous with excellence in the music industry. This multi-platinum, Grammy award-winning music producer, executive producer, and Mix Engineer is based in the vibrant city of Miami. Diaz was born in Santiago, Chile, and his family moved to the United States, settling in Miami when he was just eight years old. His musical journey began as a drummer in local bands, but his passion for music quickly transitioned into the business side of the industry. At just 18 years old, Diaz founded his first record label, setting the stage for a long and successful career.
Grammy-Winning Engineer: Recognitions and Achievements
Along with his brother Hugo Diaz, known to many as “The Diaz Brothers,” Lu is regarded as one of the architects of the modern Miami music movement. After several years of working as a sound engineer, Lu established himself as one of the most reputable engineers in South Florida. Based out of Circle House Studios in North Miami, Diaz has worked with a diverse range of artists, including P Diddy, 50 Cent, Lil Jon, Beyoncé, Toni Braxton, Mary J Blige, Lauryn Hill, and more.
He has recorded and mixed for The Baha-Men, Juvenile, Beenie Man, and Trick Daddy, to name just a few. Lu and Hugo’s remixes for major artists such as The Rolling Stones and Wyclef Jean earned them numerous platinum and gold awards. Diaz was awarded two Grammy Awards for his work on The Baha-Men’s “Who Let The Dogs Out” and Beenie Man’s “Art and Life” album.
Pitbull and the Diaz Brothers: A Historic Collaboration
In a quest to represent the Latin youth of Miami, Lu and Hugo scouted for the perfect candidate to break into the national hip-hop scene. During a mixing session at Luther Campbell’s (Uncle Luke of the 2 Live Crew) studio, Lu stumbled upon a young man who turned out to be a rapper. Impressed with both the quality of his music and his charisma, he offered him a deal. If he was ever freed from his contract at Luke Records, he should give The Diaz Brothers a call. A few months later, that young man called and his name is Pitbull. As the saying goes “the rest is history”.
Lu and Hugo served as Executive Producers and Music Producers for Pitbull’s debut album M.I.A.M.I. (Money is a major issue), released on their Diaz Brothers Music Group label distributed by TVT Records. The album sold over 700,000 copies and earned Pitbull his first Gold Album Award. They also worked on Pitbull’s next three albums as executive producers.
